Finding Presence in a Fast-Paced World with Rosie Acosta

Why Slowing Down is the Key to a Fulfilling Life

In today’s fast-paced world, many of us are caught in the rat race, constantly chasing success, productivity, and external validation. But what happens when we look up and realize years have passed, and we haven’t been truly present for our own lives? Rosie Acosta, renowned meditation and yoga teacher, joins Heal Squad with Maria Menounos to share her journey from growing up in East Los Angeles amidst gangs and violence to finding peace and purpose through mindfulness.

The Wake-Up Call: Living in the Moment

“We have to pay attention to our life,” Rosie says. “If we don’t, we wake up 10 or 20 years later, feeling like we’ve slept through our existence.” Many people experience a mid-life crisis because they realize they’ve been running on autopilot, missing the moments that truly matter. This realization can lead to anxiety, dissatisfaction, and a longing for a do-over.

Rosie emphasizes the importance of moving at the pace of nature, rather than trying to force outcomes based on societal expectations. “When things don’t happen on our timeline, we think we’re failures. But the reality is, things unfold in divine timing. We just need to be patient and present.”

A Journey from Hardship to Healing

Growing up in a challenging environment, Rosie’s childhood was marked by constant exposure to violence and instability. “When you grow up in that environment, you don’t know any different. You become accustomed to chaos,” she recalls. By the time she was a teenager, she was on probation, struggling with depression, and feeling completely lost.

It was her mother, in a moment of desperation, who unknowingly planted the seed for transformation. “She left a meditation pamphlet on the counter for me. She didn’t know how to communicate with me anymore, but that small action changed my life,” Rosie shares. Intrigued, she took the bus to a meditation center in Hollywood, and what she found there shocked her: peace.

Small Steps Lead to Big Change

Rosie’s transformation didn’t happen overnight. She started making small changes—attending meditation sessions, practicing yoga, and shifting her mindset. “I was almost 200 pounds, struggling with self-worth, and on the verge of giving up,” she admits. In a bold move, she signed up for the Los Angeles Marathon, despite never having run before. “I hated running,” she laughs. “But I knew I needed to challenge myself.”

With each step she took in training, she proved to herself that she was capable of more than she believed. “Running that marathon showed me I could start and finish something. It gave me confidence to pursue other goals.” She later became a certified nutritionist and yoga instructor, dedicating her life to helping others break through their own mental and emotional barriers.

The Power of Cultivating Discernment

One of Rosie’s most powerful insights is the ability to distinguish between discomfort and true suffering. “We have to learn discernment. Just because something is uncomfortable doesn’t mean it’s harmful. But pushing through real pain? That’s a different story.” She applies this philosophy to all aspects of life, from personal relationships to career decisions. “If something constantly drains your energy and leaves you feeling depleted, it’s okay to step away. That goes for social media, toxic relationships, and even certain professional paths.”

Shifting Your Frequency: The Real Secret to Manifestation

Many people think manifestation is just about visualization and positive thinking, but Rosie explains it’s much more than that. “You have to do the work. You have to align yourself with what you want and take small, consistent actions. That’s how you change your frequency and attract what you desire.”

She shares how her own transformation opened doors she never thought possible, from working with world-renowned wellness brands to hosting her own podcast, Radically Loved. “Opportunities came because I shifted my energy and was open to receiving. But it all started with action.”

Final Takeaway: Awareness is the First Step

For those feeling stuck, Rosie offers a simple yet profound piece of advice: “Start paying attention. Awareness is the first step to change. Notice where your energy goes. Are you surrounding yourself with people who uplift you or bring you down? Are you engaging in habits that nourish you or deplete you? Small changes add up.”

Her journey is proof that no matter where you come from, transformation is possible. By slowing down, tuning in, and making intentional choices, anyone can create a life that feels rich and fulfilling.
