Ludacris on Success, Fatherhood, and the Evolution of His Career
Ludacris—also known as Chris Bridges—has dominated music, film, and now children’s television with his hit Netflix show Karma’s World. The rapper-turned-actor sat down with Better Together with Maria Menounos to discuss his career, the Fast & Furious franchise, and how being a girl dad has transformed him.
Balancing Music and Movies
Ludacris’ career has spanned over two decades, with more than 24 million albums sold worldwide. His ability to transition seamlessly into acting has made him a household name in the Fast & Furious franchise, where he plays the tech-savvy Tej Parker.
“I had no idea we’d take it this far,” he admitted. “I was happy to be in Fast 2, and then to come back in Fast 5 was a complete surprise. Now we’re here at Fast 10, and I feel like the luckiest person in the world.”
Despite the franchise’s enormous success, Ludacris isn’t sad to see it nearing its end. “I was grateful to be part of one film, let alone all these. I’ve had an incredible run, and I’m excited for what’s next.”
Karma’s World: A Labor of Love
Inspired by his oldest daughter, Ludacris created Karma’s World, an animated Netflix series that follows a young girl navigating life through music and creativity.
“It took 14 years to bring this show to life,” he shared. “My other daughters keep asking, ‘Where’s our show?’ and I have no answers for them yet.”
The show, which tackles real-life issues like bullying and self-acceptance, was a deeply personal project. “A lot of the episodes are based on actual experiences Karma went through. That’s why kids relate to it so much—it’s real.”
Ludacris revealed that Mattel is launching a Karma’s World doll this summer, a milestone that he believes will truly make the show’s success sink in for his daughter.
Evolution as an Artist and Father
As a father of four girls, Ludacris has embraced change in both his personal and professional life. His past music, known for its explicit lyrics and party anthems, contrasts with his current role as a children’s content creator.
“I’m still Ludacris, but my truth has evolved. I can’t make a song called ‘Hoes in Different Area Codes’ now—I’m a married man!” he joked. “As an artist, you have to be honest. My truth now is being a father and finding new ways to inspire.”
He confirmed he is working on new music but wants to ensure it reflects his current reality. “It takes more thought now. But I’m excited—I think I’ve found something special.”
Leaving a Legacy
Beyond entertainment, Ludacris is dedicated to philanthropy through the Ludacris Foundation, which focuses on youth empowerment in Atlanta. He believes in using his platform to uplift others.
“When we leave this world, we’re going to watch a highlight reel of our lives—everything we did, good and bad,” he explained. “That’s why I want to focus on making a positive impact.”
