Lala Kent on Sobriety, Self-Reflection, and Personal Growth
Lala Kent, widely known for her role on Vanderpump Rules, has been on a transformative journey of self-improvement, and she recently opened up about her experiences on Heal Squad with Maria Menounos. From sobriety to self-awareness and emotional resilience, Lala shared powerful insights that resonate with anyone striving for personal growth.
Embracing Sobriety as a Life-Changing Gift
Lala’s sobriety journey began when she recognized the toll alcohol was taking on her life. She recalled a pivotal moment during a family trip to Disney World when she found herself obsessing over a bottle of Hennessy. “I was drinking straight from the bottle, in front of children,” she admitted. “I woke up the next morning and knew something had to change.”
The turning point came when she acknowledged her struggle to her fiancé, Randall Emmett, who had written her a letter expressing his concerns. Before he even had to deliver it, Lala took matters into her own hands, declaring, “I’m an alcoholic, and I need help.” Since then, she has been sober for over a year and a half, crediting Alcoholics Anonymous and self-reflection as key components of her recovery.
Lala emphasized that sobriety isn’t just about quitting alcohol—it’s about clarity. “Alcohol fogs reality,” she said. “When you’re drinking, you’re not seeing the world as it is. Sobriety has given me a real sense of self.”
The Power of Self-Reflection
One of the most profound takeaways from Lala’s journey is her commitment to self-improvement. During quarantine, she used the time to reflect on her actions and the way she treated others. Watching past episodes of Vanderpump Rules served as a wake-up call. “I saw myself going off on people who didn’t deserve it,” she admitted. “I realized I had so much anger since my dad passed, and I was carrying that weight.”
To counteract these patterns, she developed a powerful daily practice: morning intentions and nighttime reflections. “Every morning, I set my intention for the day. At night, I reflect on what I did well and what I can do better,” she explained. “It helps me move forward with clarity.”
Finding Spirituality in Sobriety
Lala’s journey through AA also led her to a deeper connection with spirituality. “People are afraid of the word ‘God’ in recovery, but it doesn’t have to be religious. I find power in things greater than me—nature, the universe,” she shared. “You realize alcohol is stronger than you, but so is the beauty around you. That’s what keeps me grounded.”
This newfound perspective has helped her navigate challenges with grace and gratitude. “I used to look at life as a checklist—just getting things done. Now I see it as something I get to do, and I’m grateful every day.”
Supporting Others in Sobriety and James Kennedy
Despite her busy schedule, Lala remains dedicated to supporting others in their sobriety journey, including her friend and co-star James Kennedy. “When drinking starts affecting not just you but those around you, it’s time to make a change,” she advised.
The Takeaway: Growth is a Continuous Journey
Lala Kent’s evolution from reality star to self-aware individual is a testament to the power of self-reflection and intentional living. Her message is clear: growth isn’t about perfection—it’s about taking accountability, making better choices, and constantly striving to be a better version of yourself.
