How to Take the Leap and Build Your Dream Life with Danielle Canty
In an inspiring conversation on Heal Squad with Maria Menounos, entrepreneur and co-founder of Boss Babe, Danielle Canty, shared invaluable lessons on overcoming fear, embracing change, and building a thriving business. Canty’s journey from chiropractor to multimillion-dollar business owner is a testament to the power of resilience, mindset, and strategic growth. Whether you’re contemplating a career shift, battling self-doubt, or looking for ways to optimize your life, Danielle’s insights will leave you empowered and ready to take action.
The Power of Deciding to Change
Danielle Canty was a practicing chiropractor when she had a life-altering realization: she wanted more. After her father suffered a serious skiing accident, Canty saw firsthand how fleeting life could be. She questioned her career, her purpose, and her desire for impact.
“I realized I was living my life in 15-minute appointments, helping people one-on-one when I wanted to do more,” Canty recalls. “I wanted location independence. I wanted to scale my impact.”
Her first step? Making the decision. “You don’t need all the qualifications upfront,” she stresses. “Life is your school.”
Perfectionism is the Enemy of Progress
Canty identifies as a “recovering perfectionist,” and it’s a battle many of us can relate to. Fear of failure and the need to have everything perfectly in place can be paralyzing. But according to Canty, the biggest growth comes when you push past that fear.
“The fear of not doing it became greater than the fear of failing,” she says. “I was more scared of staying stagnant than of trying and failing.”
Her advice? Start before you’re ready. “You learn as you go,” she insists. “Nobody has it all figured out in the beginning.”
Growth Comes from Pain and Discomfort
Many of Canty’s biggest breakthroughs came from moments of pain. “You can live life comfortably, or you can use adversity as a catalyst,” she explains. “I’ve learned to ask: how can I use this lesson to propel me forward instead of holding me back?”
This mindset shift is crucial. Instead of being paralyzed by setbacks, reframe them as stepping stones to success.
The Importance of Mentorship and Community
One of the most powerful takeaways from Canty’s journey is the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people. “Mentors are everywhere,” she says. “They don’t have to be billionaires—just someone a step ahead of where you want to be.”
If you don’t have access to mentors, Canty suggests reading books, taking courses, and joining communities of like-minded people. In fact, this was one of the reasons she co-founded Boss Babe, an online network designed to support female entrepreneurs with education, mentorship, and networking.
The Mindset Shift: Owning Your Strengths and Weaknesses
Self-awareness is key to personal and professional growth. Canty emphasizes the importance of acknowledging both strengths and weaknesses. “Write down what you’re good at, what you struggle with, and what’s holding you back,” she suggests.
A practical tip she shared? Make a to-do list divided into three sections:
- To Do – Tasks that truly need your attention.
- To Delegate – Tasks that others can handle.
- To Don’t – Things that drain energy or don’t contribute to your goals.
By organizing tasks this way, you maximize efficiency and avoid unnecessary stress.
Practical Habits for Success
Canty attributes much of her success to daily habits that keep her focused and energized. Some of her key routines include:
- Airplane mode at night – No phone distractions before bed.
- Gratitude journaling – Listing three things she’s grateful for each night.
- Morning reading – A few pages of an inspiring book every morning.
- Exercise – Prioritizing movement first thing in the morning.
- Batching tasks – Planning the night before and eliminating inefficiencies.
“Success isn’t about huge leaps—it’s about the small, consistent habits that compound over time,” Canty says.
Just Start
Canty’s biggest lesson? Action beats hesitation. “You don’t have to see the whole staircase,” she says. “Just take the first step.”
Whether it’s a career change, a business idea, or personal growth, the key is to begin. “Most people take themselves out of the race before they even start,” Canty explains. “The ones who win are simply the ones who keep going.”
