Brooke Shields on Aging, Confidence, and Reinvention

Learning to Celebrate Who You Are at Every Age

Brooke Shields has been in the public eye since infancy, yet her journey of self-discovery, reinvention, and empowerment is one that resonates with women everywhere. On Heal Squad with Maria Menounos, Brooke opened up about how women can embrace aging, pivot careers at any stage, and cultivate confidence.

Brooke’s story is not just one of Hollywood success—it’s about resilience, transformation, and finding purpose beyond societal expectations. As she puts it, “Growing up, my mom always used to say, ‘Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, start all over again.’ She taught me that new beginnings could be anything I wanted them to be.”

Owning Your Identity and Power After 40

Society often sends the message that once women hit 40, they become less relevant. Brooke is here to shatter that myth. Through her digital wellness brand, Beginning is Now, she’s creating a space where women can own their age, feel sexy and strong, and explore new possibilities.

“I feel sexier and stronger now than I ever have,” Brooke shared. “We’ve been conditioned to feel invisible as we age, but the truth is, life gets richer. Women over 40 are starting businesses, reinventing careers, and rediscovering themselves. It’s time to be celebrated, not sidelined.”

Breaking Free from the ‘Ageless’ Trap

Many women hear, “Oh my God, you never age!” While meant as a compliment, this type of praise can create a hidden pressure to maintain a youthful appearance at all costs.

“It almost makes you feel like you’re not allowed to age,” Brooke explained. “The reality is, wrinkles come, things sag—but that doesn’t mean we lose value. It’s about vitality, not chasing youth.”

She encourages women to shift their mindset from anti-aging to pro-living. “Do what makes you feel good—whether it’s movement, self-care, or something as simple as coloring your hair. But do it for you, not because you’re afraid of being judged.”

Confidence at 56: How Brooke Shields Got There

It’s hard to imagine someone as stunning and accomplished as Brooke Shields ever struggling with confidence, but she admits it was a journey.

“I used to compare myself to others constantly,” she said. “But over time, I realized that my resilience—getting through the hard times, the failures, the rejections—was what gave me confidence.”

Her secret? Shifting the focus from external validation to internal strength. “I started acknowledging what my body had done for me—giving birth, healing after surgeries, carrying me through life. That’s when I stopped tearing myself down and started appreciating myself.”

The Role of Therapy in Her Transformation

Brooke has been in therapy for nearly 30 years, and she credits it with helping her break negative thought patterns and build resilience.

“Therapy gave me perspective,” she shared. “Growing up in the public eye, I was constantly scrutinized. Having someone to help me process that made a huge difference.”

She also emphasized the importance of surrounding yourself with people who uplift you. “We need to carve out the right support system—whether it’s therapy, friendships, or family. It’s essential for growth.”

Navigating Motherhood and Raising Confident Daughters

As a mother of two teenage girls, Brooke is intentional about fostering open communication and confidence in them.

“I’m strict, but I listen. I want them to know they’re loved, that they can trust me, and that it’s okay to push back. Girls today face so much pressure, especially with social media. My job is to keep them grounded while letting them discover who they are.”

She also acknowledged the challenges of raising daughters in a world that still places heavy expectations on women. “They push back, they challenge me, but I see that as a sign of strength. I want them to grow into independent women who know their worth.”

Beginning is Now: A Movement for Women Over 40

Brooke’s latest venture, Beginning is Now, is more than just a digital wellness brand—it’s a movement. “I created this because I realized there was no real space celebrating women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond. We are dynamic, we are evolving, and we deserve to be recognized.”

Through her platform, she’s providing resources on movement, self-care, confidence, and reinvention. “I want women to feel vibrant and excited about their futures. There is no expiration date on reinvention.”

The Power of Resilience: Why New Beginnings Matter

Brooke’s personal journey includes overcoming setbacks, including a devastating femur break that left her learning to walk again. “I had a choice—give up or fight to regain my strength. That experience reinforced everything Beginning is Now stands for: resilience, starting over, and embracing new chapters.”

Her message is clear: Your story isn’t over. Whether you’re pivoting careers, rediscovering confidence, or simply trying to take better care of yourself, now is your time.
