Ally Brooke on Overcoming Rejection, Self-Discovery, and Faith

In an intimate and inspiring conversation on Better Together with Maria Menounos, singer and former Fifth Harmony member Ally Brooke opened up about her journey to self-discovery, navigating rejection, and staying true to her values in the often-unforgiving music industry. Known for her powerhouse vocals and radiant positivity, Ally’s path to success has been anything but easy. Now, with the release of her memoir Finding Your Harmony, she’s sharing her story to inspire others who may feel lost in their own pursuits.

Navigating Rejection and Finding Strength

Before Fifth Harmony, Ally had already experienced her fair share of setbacks in the industry. Despite talent and drive, she faced continuous rejection, a struggle that resurfaced when the group disbanded. “There was a time I thought, ‘Is this it for me? Will I ever have the chance to do what I love again?’” she shared.

But rather than letting rejection define her, she used it as fuel to push forward. Finding Your Harmony details how she learned to embrace these moments as seasons of growth. “You never lose unless you quit,” Ally emphasized, reinforcing the power of resilience and faith.

Overcoming Self-Doubt and Reclaiming Her Identity

In the whirlwind of Fifth Harmony, Ally struggled to maintain her sense of self. “I was the people-pleaser, the big sister, trying to keep everything together,” she admitted. “But in doing that, I lost my own voice.”

Going solo allowed her to reclaim that voice. “Now, I get to decide what I sing, how I present myself, and what messages I want to share with the world,” she said. With hits like Low Key and No Good, Ally has not only found her sound but also her confidence.

The Dark Side of the Industry

Ally bravely opened up about the darker realities of the entertainment industry, including an encounter with a powerful music executive who made inappropriate advances toward her. “At that moment, I felt powerless,” she recalled. “I was scared—scared of being blacklisted, scared of what he could do to my career.”

Her decision to include this experience in her book was not an easy one. “I almost took it out,” she admitted. “But I realized how important it was to share. So many young women need to hear that they are not alone and that this behavior is not okay.”

Leaning on Faith and Family

Throughout all her struggles, Ally credits her unwavering faith and the support of her family for keeping her grounded. “Prayer and my parents kept me strong,” she shared. “There were moments I wanted to give up, but they reminded me why I started.”

Faith is central to her story, even shaping major life decisions, such as her choice to remain abstinent until marriage. While she was initially nervous to speak publicly about it, she was overwhelmed by the support she received. “Owning your truth, whatever that may be, is powerful,” she said.

Embracing New Beginnings

Today, Ally is thriving. She’s not only making music on her terms but also starring in her first feature film alongside Kelsey Grammer. “It’s a dream come true,” she beamed. “This role is so personal to me, and I’m excited for people to see this side of me.”

Through it all, Ally’s message is clear: perseverance, faith, and self-belief can turn pain into purpose. Finding Your Harmony is more than just a memoir—it’s a testament to resilience and hope.
